Smokefree Parks and Outdoor Areas Policy

SmokefreeReference: P07-002
Status: Approved by the Council on 28 August 2007, amended 22 September 2015

The Council as a matter of policy endorses smokefree parks and outdoor areas including playgrounds, sports grounds, walkways, shared spaces, bus stops, taxi ranks, shared public transport stops, and within four metres of doorways to public buildings.

As signs in Council-controlled parks and outdoor areas including playgrounds, sports grounds, walkways, shared spaces, bus stops, taxi stands, shared public transport stops, and within four metres of doorways to public buildings are upgraded or replaced the smoke free logo where appropriate will appear on that signage.

The Council supports the New Zealand Government’s goal of a smoke free New Zealand by 2025, and encourages smoke free initiatives within all of Council business where practicable.
