Public holiday opening hours

Please see our Contact Us page for specific public holiday opening hours. Where Mondayisation of a public holiday occurs, the rural transfer stations will be closed on both the actual and observed dates. 

Note - this does not apply to the New Plymouth Transfer Station, which is managed by EnviroWaste. Please check charges and opening hours with Envirowaste on 06 758 7601 or visit their website.

New Plymouth Transfer Station

This facility is not a NPDC Transfer Station, it is owned and operated by Envirowaste Ltd. The prices differ from those of NPDC owned Transfer Stations. Please check charges and opening hours with Envirowaste on 06 758 7601 or visit their website.

Open daily 8am-4.30pm.
Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day.

Note: Accepts landfill waste and green waste only – all reusable items and recyclables go to The Junction next door.

The New Plymouth Transfer Station can accept up to 10kg or 10L of household hazardous waste free of charge provided the original container is still being used, the original label is on the container and the container is not leaking. Please contact EnviroWaste Limited (06-758 7601) regarding commercial quantities of hazardous waste.

Inglewood Transfer Station

Open Monday and Thursday 9.30am to 11.30am, Saturday and Sunday 1pm to 4pm.
Closed all public holidays.
Address: 277 King Road, Inglewood.
Note: Recycling free. Only light vehicles carrying domestic refuse are accepted - cars, vans, utes, station wagons with or without trailers. Trucks greater than one tonne are accepted only if they are carrying green waste.

Okato Transfer Station

Open Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday 1pm to 4pm.
Closed all public holidays.
Address: 186 Hampton Road, Okato.
Note: Recycling free. Only light vehicles carrying domestic refuse are accepted, i.e. cars, vans, utes and station wagons with or without trailers. Trucks greater than one tonne are accepted only if they are carrying green waste.

Tongaporutu Transfer Station

Open Sunday 1pm to 4pm.
Closed all public holidays.
Address: 110 Hutiwai Road, Tongaporutu.
Note: Recycling free - only aluminium and glass accepted. Only light vehicles carrying domestic refuse are accepted, i.e. cars, vans, utes and station wagons with or without trailers. Trucks greater than one tonne are accepted if they are carrying green waste. No EFTPOS facilities available on site.

After hours

A coin operated Jack Trash Bin is located on Reserve Land South West of the Main Road River Bridge. This costs $4 per rubbish bag.

Waitara Transfer Station

Open Saturday noon to 4pm, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday 1pm to 4pm.
Closed all public holidays.
Address: 33 Norman Street, Waitara.
Note: Recycling free. Only light vehicles carrying domestic refuse are accepted, i.e. cars, vans, utes and station wagons with or without trailers. Trucks over one tonne payload are not accepted.

The charges below are for the NPDC-operated transfer stations at Waitara, Inglewood, Okato and Tongaporutu for the 2021/22 year. For charges at the New Plymouth Transfer Station, please contact the operator EnviroWaste Limited on 06-758 7601.

Can I get the charges waived?

Contact us prior to taking your waste to the facility to see if you meet these criteria.

  • The rubbish collected is from beaches or other public places as part of a clean up organised by a community organisation, including schools, using voluntary labour.
  • The rubbish is collected from a public place by a charity or arises from a one-off clean up of property owned or occupied by a charity. (This does not apply to the normal cleaning of public places by a charity, or situations where a charity tender for refuse disposal on a regular basis. This also does not apply to sports and other clubs or schools.)
  • The rubbish arises as a consequence of fire or other natural disaster where there is no insurance or other funding to cover the costs.
