Cemeteries and Crematoria Bylaw Review 2019

Status: closed
Consultation ended: 23 October 2019.

The Draft Cemeteries and Crematoria Bylaw 2019 and Handbook is now open for public consultation. This is your chance to share your views and preferences about the proposals, so please take the time to get involved and have your say.

We are reviewing the New Plymouth District Bylaw 2008 Parts 3 and 3a Cemeteries and Crematoria in accordance with the Local Government Act 2002. We have taken the review as an opportunity to revisit the previous approach adopted in 2008 by proposing changes to better address the perceived problems that arise in relation to cemeteries and crematoria. The review also proposes a standalone Cemeteries and Crematoria Bylaw 2019 with an accompanying Cemeteries and Crematoria Handbook. The Draft Bylaw and Handbook provide measures to ensure the health and safety of visitors and workers, prevent damage and misuse of cemeteries, and provides for the deceased in a controlled and respectful manner.
