Operative District Plan
Councils are required to prepare a District Plan under the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA). The District Plan includes objectives, policies and rules that manage the adverse effects of activities on the environment with a focus on land use and subdivision activities. The New Plymouth District Plan became operative on 15 August 2005. We are required to review the provisions in the District Plan every 10 years. A review of the Operative Plan began in 2014 and is now complete. Our new Proposed District Plan was publicly notified on Monday 23 September.
Consents will be considered under both the Operative District Plan and any relevant sections of the Proposed District Plan until the Proposed District Plan becomes Operative, which is expected to take around two years. During this period, you should check both the Operative and the Proposed District Plans to fully understand the planning rules for the district.
