Earthquake Prone Buildings

The New Plymouth District Council has maintained a public register of the seismic assessments conducted by it under the policy that the Building Act 2004 required.

On 1 July 2017 the Building (Earthquake-prone buildings) Amendment Act 2016 replaced the requirement for councils to have their own policy with a national policy.

That policy provides a national earthquake-prone buildings register (confirmed earthquake-prone buildings) and a new methodology for their assessment.

As such, the New Plymouth District Council will no longer present a public register of its buildings’ assessments. The information will remain on the individual property records but will not be on the Council website and remains publicly accessible by enquiry.
