Situated on the most westerly point of Taranaki. The lighthouse was transferred from Mana Island, Wellington in 1881 and was electrified by power from diesel generators in 1951 and was later connected to the country's electricity supply. The light can be seen for 22 nautical miles on a clear night. Not open to the public, view from road.

Three kilometre guided walks of New Plymouth suitable for children aged over 10 years to senior citizens.
Notes: Children under the age of 10 years are the responsibility of attending adults. There is a small hill climb of moderate incline that can be omitted. All bookings to be made through Visitor Information Centre at Puke Ariki.

Furnished colonial cottage. Originally known as Beach Cottage. After being closed for several years the cottage has been fitted with all-new content which tells stories of the building, gardens and the families who first built it.
Tours are now available to visit the village site where a large number of scenes from 'The Last Samurai' were shot. Your tour begins with a drive through a New Zealand sheep and beef farm to where the Samurai Village was created. Some structures have been reconstructed on the original site which are complemented with indepth photographic displays and props. Your tour guide will give you a commentary of how the set was built and all the land owners' experiences during the filming.

Meaning - "the beak of the bird", was an important centre for the Ngaruahine iwi. Te Ngutu O Te Manu was the base from which Titokowaru led the Maori campaign against government land confiscation in South Taranaki. Te Ngutu O Te Manu was attacked by the Armed Constabulary as retribution for the attack by Titokowaru on Turuturu Mokai. During the attack, Major Gustavus Von Tempsky was killed and a memorial to him and other casualties of the battle is located in the grounds.

This landmark commemorates the settlement of the area by Turi and his hapu, who travelled from Hawaiiki to Kawhia and then overland to Patea. The waka was erected in 1933.
