Employment Benefits

Working at the Council has benefits that extend far beyond our competitive remuneration packages, positive working environment, modern facilities and a chance to serve the community. At NPDC we aim to create and sustain a truly rewarding workplace environment and have put together a total rewards offering that spans wellbeing, development, benefits, culture and recognition. This offering provides a diverse range of opportunities and benefits for our staff. More details can be found on the attached poster.

International applicants

We know that moving to a new country can be daunting experience. There are visas and permits to obtain, paperwork to complete, packing to be done and accommodation to find.

If you successfully apply for a job with us, we will go that extra mile to help you relocate to this great city of ours.  We are an accredited employer with the Immigration Department, which means that we can assist you in obtaining work visas and permits.

IPENZ Professional Development Programme

WIPENZ PDPe recognise the importance of career development, which is why we've partnered with IPENZ (Institute of Professional Engineers New Zealand) and become a Professional Development Partner.

The objective of the PDP programme is to ensure that our engineering staff are provided with a structured professional development programme.

New graduates can expect a structured professional development programme that includes training opportunities and work experiences, regular feedback on your progress and mentoring support.

More experienced engineers can expect support to gain and maintain IPENZ quality marks, develop management skills and develop your career in-line with your long term aspirations.

The programme has four stages:
Stage 1
Gaining an appropriate engineering tertiary qualification.  This refers to the academic education of engineers required to develop engineering competencies.

Stage 2
Gaining and maintaining relevant professional standing and competence based membership and registration (CPEng, ETPract, CertETn) by demonstrating and maintaining professional competence for independent practice.  This is for engineers that are typically in the early stages of their career but is relevant for mature engineers too.

Stage 3
Developing technical leadership and/ or business management/ leadership skills.

Stage 4
Developing technical expertise and/ or organisational governance skills.

Our programme focuses on stages 1 and 2 but encouragement is given to development of skills for stages 3 and 4.
