Finger on the Trigger to Extinction

Wed 20 Aug 2008

Time: 6pm
Location: Learning Centre, Puke Ariki
Qantas Media Award-winning writer Sarah Barnett from the New Zealand Listener explores whether humans are heading for extinction, just like the dinosaurs who ruled the planet before us.

Dinosaurs ruled the planet for 160 million years before becoming extinct. Modern humans have been around for only 250,000 years and already we have our finger on the trigger. Are we heading the same way as the dinosaurs, after just one tenth of one percent of their time on Earth?

Sarah Barnett is a Qantas Media Award-winning writer for the New Zealand Listener and has written extensively on climate change and other environmental issues.
