Huatoki Walkway

From the heart of New Plymouth city, this gently graded walk follows the path of the Huatoki River. From its river mouth (at the Wind Wand on the Coastal Walkway) to its head above the Huatoki Domain, this beautiful track winds its way behind city office blocks and residential housing, through developed parkland and scenic native bush. Attractions

Sir Victor Davies Park

A small inner city native park dedicated in 1978 to the internationally renowned horticulturalist of the New Plymouth nursery, Duncan and Davies Ltd.

Marsland Hill

Once the Maori Pa Pukaka, Marsland Hill was levelled in 1855 to produce a strategic site for the imperial Militia during the Land Wars in the 1860s. Today there are monuments, the Carillion and superb views across the city to the coastline.

Baines Tce

The New Plymouth railway line originally crossed a bridge at his point before following the west bank through Sir Victor Davies Park to the centre of town. the first commercial flour mill the Taranaki, Alpha Flour Mill, operated on the east bank from 1844 and was demolished in 1880.

Glenpark Reserve

The area includes bush walks, open reserve and playground as well as featuring an impressive planting of exotics and native trees.

Huatoki Domain

A sheltered lawn and playground area nestled within a mature patch of native forest dominated by Titoki and Tawa trees.

Tupari Reserve

A delightful bush setting providing walks through dense Tawa forest carpeted with ferns and Nikau palms.
