THE DISAPPEARING SCULPTURE - DEPENDING ON THE TIDE

The former Kawaroa Saltwater Baths (off Tisch Ave, New Plymouth).

In 1996 Wayne McVicar carved this stone seal from a Taranaki andesite stone during the Stone Symposium in New Plymouth, and had it installed in the former saltwater baths off the city's coastline in April 1997. 

The stone used comes from a local river.

Silky is visible from the Kawaroa playground at low and mid-tide, but is submerged at high tide.
