Fernery and Display Houses

Pukekura Park's Fernery consists of three glass-topped caverns excavated into a hillside. Being below normal ground level, they create a temperate environment suited to display a wide variety of indoor and outdoor plants from around the world.

One of the entrance tunnels into the Fernery.

Finding the Fernery

Access the Fernery and Display Houses from the Horton Walk Entrance or Fred Parker Lawn in Pukekura Park.

Fernery and Display Houses Plan

History of the Fernery

The Fernery and Display houses date back to the early 1900s.

Our Displays and Collections

With a collection of over 50,000 plants, there really is something for everyone.

The People Behind the Plants

There is only a team of three full time staff and one part timer that maintain the Ferney and Display Houses.
