New Plymouth Airport

NEW PLYMOUTH AIRPORT IS A KEY GATEWAY TO THE REGION

Four Q300 airplanes at New Plymouth Airport.

New Plymouth Airport

New Plymouth Airport is a 50:50 joint venture between the Crown and the Council. We hold the aerodrome operator’s certificate and operate the airport on behalf of the joint venture.

This includes the provision, maintenance and operation of the land and facilities, including the runways and the terminal building, but excludes the control tower and navigational aids which are provided, maintained and operated by the Airways Corporation of New Zealand (ACNZ).

Land not required for aircraft operations and the terminal is leased for hangars, aviation-related businesses and grazing.

New Plymouth Airport has three runways in regular use. These comprise:

  • A sealed runway that is 1310m long and 45m wide.  Runway designation: 05/23.
  • Two grass runways that are 1000m long and 30m wide runway designation: 05/23 and 1200m long and 40m wide runway designation:14/32.

In 2011, 300,960 passengers used the airport.

New Plymouth Airport Car Parking

The New Plymouth Airport Carpark has 223 car spaces and recently increased its size by 20 per cent to accommodate an extra 50 spaces. The new car parking area is good for long term travellers who leave their cars for up to a week at a time.

Visitors enter Carpark through a barrier arm where they will be issued an entry ticket which they must keep on them. On leaving the terminal building, the entry ticket is placed into the payment machine which will then tell them the charges they have accrued. Once they have placed the tendered amount into the machine, they then receive an exit ticket which is placed into the machine at the exit barrier. The barrier arm will rise and allow them to exit the carpark.
