Council Achievements

We are constantly striving to deliver better services to our customers. Because of this commitment to improvement a number of Council teams, events or developments have been recognised through external awards.

 

New Zealand Recreation Association Awards

Outstanding Project Award for the Coastal Walkway Extension.

New Zealand Community Boards Conference’s Best Practice Awards 2011

Kaitake Community Board received the Partnership Award for its work on the Blue Flag programme at Oakura Beach, and a highly commended for consultation through KCB’s Facebook page.

ALGIM Web Awards 2011

newplymouthnz.com received the Supreme Award for Best Local Government Website, the Accessibility Award, and the People’s Choice Award for Best New Feature (for the How Your Council Spends Each Dollar interactive map).
govettbrewster.com received the Best Redevelopment Award.

New Zealand Museum Awards 2011 

Excellence in Exhibition (Social History) Award to Puke Ariki for the exhibition Te Ahi Ka Roa,Te Ahi Katoro, Taranaki War 1860-2010 : Our Legacy, Our Challenge.

Footbridge Bridge Awards 2011

Winner Aesthetics Medium Span.

International Bridge Conference Awards 2011

The Arthur G. Hayden Medal for Te Rewa Rewa Bridge, for outstanding achievement in bridge engineering that demonstrates innovation in special-use bridges.

ALGIM Awards 2010

VMware Innovation Award for excellence in information management, best practice in information technology, and outstanding leadership within New Zealand local government.

Cycle Friendly Awards 2010

Finalist in the Avanti Best Cycle Facility Project category for Te Rewa Rewa Bridge.

Western Architecture Awards 2009

Boon Goldsmith Bhaskar Brebner Team Architecture won the Urban Category for the construction of the Coastal Walkway’s pedestrian bridge at the end of Liardet Street.

CAN Cycle-Friendly Awards 2009

Finalist in the Best Cycling Promotion category for the Wild West Bike Fest.

New Zealand Airports Association Awards 2009

Top Regional Airport for New Plymouth Airport.

Community Category - the joint Herekawe Walkway project (awarded to NPDC, Dow Agrosciences, Shell, Methanex, Taranaki Tree Trust and A J Cowley)

New Zealand Planning Institute Awards 2007

Award of Merit - the Mana Whenua Mana Moana position paper (awarded to the Mana Whenua Reference Group, Beca Carter Hollings & Ferner and NPDC). The position paper provided important information for the district’s Coastal Strategy, which NPDC finalised late last year to guide coastal issues for the next 20 years.
