Community Reuse and Recycle Centre Project

An exciting new project is currently under way at the region’s Resource Recovery Facility on Colson Road, New Plymouth!
Here's what they do in Raglan, Taranaki can do even better!

The Community Reuse and Recycle Centre sets out to create an attitude change around waste in our community by:

  • Encouraging reduction of waste through reuse and recycling.
  • Donation of unwanted goods for resale.
  • Education.

The centre will include:

  • Retail spaces for reusable and upcycled materials.
  • A public reuse and recycling drop-off area.
  • Education spaces.
  • Art space.
  • Workshop space.

We are working with three community groups to provide the centre:

  • WISE.
  • Taranaki Education Trust.
  • Xtreme Zero Waste (runs a similar facility in Raglan and are on board as an adviser).

Like our Facebook page to follow the project.

The Project

The centre will be the first facility you see on arrival to the region's Resource Recovery Facility on Colson Road, New Plymouth, and the primary facility for the general public.

Development will take place in stages as the community response and demand grows. We will build the first stage and partner with individuals or organisations to help manage and develop it. Key activities will include reusable items and recycling drop off area, e-waste recycling depot, reuse retail shop, workshop and education spaces.

The end goal is to have the centre self-sustaining, and providing for other non-profits in the future, there will be support from the Council at the beginning, through creating partnerships, capacity building, and financial support.
