e-Day: Clean Up our E-Waste!

Disposal of e-waste

e-Day 2011

No e-Day is planned for 2011 as the government has not allocated any national funding. It may be held again in 2012 so keep an eye on this site for updates.

  • Media release from eDay New Zealand Trust confirming no eDay in 2011 (Two pages 100KB PDF)

What is e-Day?

e-Day is a free cars-only drive-through recycling event that provides an opportunity for households and schools to dispose of their obsolete computers, monitors, printers, scanners, faxes and mobile phones in an environmentally sustainable way.

Co-ordinated nationally by the eDay Trust Inc, eDay is one action that we can make New Plymouth District a more sustainable community. It is specifically for households and schools. Businesses are expected to make their own disposal arrangements with their suppliers.

Approximately 95 per cent of the materials in a computer or associated equipment can be recycled.

The inaugural eDay in New Plymouth District was held in 2008. All of the items delivered to the drop-off centre were either destined to be sorted for reuse (larger monitors only) or broken down and the reclaimed material (e.g. gold, copper, lead, and glass) recycled. The material recovery process is internationally certified and environmentally safe.
