Cycle retailers

New Plymouth District has over 30 cycle retailers who can help you make the best choice in gear depending on your age, ability, gender and the type of riding you’d like to do. Experts in their field, these guys can fit you to a bike to make the ride super comfortable and kit you out with any gear you might need to stay safe and visible on the road.

National organisations

Bike NZ
Bike NZ is an umbrella organisation representing recreational and high performance cyclists.

Cycling Advocates' Network (CAN)
The Cycling Advocates' Network (CAN) is New Zealand's national network of cycling advocates. They work with government and local authorities on behalf of cyclists for a better cycling environment.  CAN aims to promote the benfits of cycling, improve safety for cyclists, encourage the creation of a good cycling environment, promote cycle tourism, advocate for integrated cycle planning and increase the number of cyclists on our roads.

Ministry of Transport
The Ministry of Transport (MOT) implements the government’s Transport Strategy. This strategy aims to create an affordable, integrated, safe, responsive and sustainable transport system. The MOT also implements the ‘Getting there – by foot, by cycle’ – a strategy to advance walking and cycling in New Zealand.

Land Transport New Zealand
LTNZ works closely with several partners at a national, regional and local level to improve the safety of our roads for all users, including cyclists. LTNZ also develop the Road Code and provide a number of resources for walking, cycling and creating travel plans.

North Taranaki Cycling Advocates (NTCA)
North Taranaki Cycling Advocates (NTCA) aims to look after the interests of commuter cyclists in the North Taranaki area. This means working with NPDC, TRC, Transit NZ, other cycling interested groups and the wider CAN network.

Cycling New Plymouth Club
Cycling New Plymouth Club Inc (CNP) is a friendly New Plymouth based club catering for racing and leisure cyclists from novices to veterans. They aim to provide a racing program for members and also encourage more people to take up cycling and cycle racing in the North Taranaki Area.

New Plymouth BMX Club 
Fun for the whole family! Head down to the BMX track in New Plymouth - what ever the age, what ever the skill, that’s what’s so great about our sport. Boys, girls mums, dads, nanas and grandads are all able to hop on a bike and race! New riders are welcome to come along and have a go, your first three nights riding are free and after that it is only $3 per night.
