Sustainable Living Programme

The Sustainable Living Programme is for people who want to learn about and try practical tips that support daily sustainable living. Living sustainability can save you or your workplace money, decrease your ecological footprint and improve social wellbeing.

The Sustainable Living Programme is provided in partnership by New Plymouth District Council and Hive Taranaki. The course is owned by the Sustainable Living Trust, a registered charitable organisation, who licenses the use of material, resources and support to local authorities.

Programme Content

There are ten sustainable living study topics that have been designed to work as a series of sessions or stand alone. Topics are:

  • Introduction to sustainability.
  • Energy efficiency.
  • Eco-building design and insulation.
  • Water use and protection.
  • Gardening with nature.
  • Organic growing.
  • Waste, recycling and composting.
  • Ethical shopping.
  • Travel options and carbon impacts.
  • Community resilience.

Each session is two hours and is led by a skilled tutor, however courses can be tailored to suit special requests.
The topics are supported by informative handouts and suggested activities to try at home or in the workplace.
A fee may apply to cover the cost of delivery.
