Your Visit

Location: The main gate at Fillis Street provides direct access from the centre of New Plymouth. There are also 22 pedestrian entrances allowing entry from all sides of the park, and three other carparks on Rogan Street, Victoria Road and Brooklands Park Drive.The Fountain Lake at Pukekura Park.

Opening Hours

Pukekura Park is open daily from 7.30am-7.00pm and 7.30am-8.00pm during daylight savings.

The Fernery and Display Houses are open daily from 8.30am-4.00pm except Christmas day.

The Tea House on the Lake is open from 9.00am-4.00pm in winter and 9.00am-10.00pm during summer.


How to get here

Pukekura Park is located in the heart of New Plymouth, within an easy walk of the CBD. There are lots of free parking available on the streets adjacent to the entrances, see our map below to choose the best car park for you. There are also bus services that run past the park regularily.

Disability Access

Car Parks


There are eight disability car parks in and surrounding Pukekura Park:

  • Two in front of Bellringer Pavillion (accessed via Fillis Street).
  • Two in front of the Curators Office (accessed via Fillis Street).
  • Two at Brooklands Zoo (accessed via Brooklands Park Drive).
  • One at the Rogan Street entrance.
  • One behind the Tea House (accessed via Fillis Street).

Accessible paths


Most areas of Pukekura Park are wheelchair accessible, other than the steep paths and stairs. Accessible routes and toilets are signposted.

Wheelchair and Mobility scooters are available from the Tea House at no charge. These are sponsored by the TSB Bank.

Visitor Information brochures and maps are available from the Tea House and the Fernery.

Pukekura Park Tea House on the Lake and Kiosk


The Tea House on the lake features a changing blackboard menu. Come and enjoy great food in a fantastic setting with family and friends.

Rest Areas and Toilets


Pukekura Park is a popular destination for picnic gatherings with many lawns and gardens to choose from with public toilets nearby. Please check out the Pukekura Park map for rest area and toilet locations.

Guided or Self-Guided Walks


Guided tours are available through Friends of Pukekura Park. Self-guided tours are available by collecting a printed map of the park from the Tea House on the Lake or the Fernery and Display Houses.

Friends of Pukekura Park Buggy Bookings and Tours


The Friends of Pukekura Park was formed in 1996 with the aim to see the special nature of Pukekura Park maintained and celebrated as unique. They offer a six seat golf buggy tour for those that are less mobile. The buggy tours the park between 1pm and 3pm on Sunday afternoons leaving from the Bellringer Pavilion. Week-day tours are by arrangement.

Visitor Code

These beautiful gardens are for everyone to enjoy - please don't collect plants or flowers, climb on the trees, or walk on garden beds. There is also strictly no fishing.

However, we invite you to smell the flowers, hug the trees, talk to the ducks and picnic on the lawns.

Please, no bicycle riding, scooter riding, rollerblading, rollerskating, frisbees or ball games. These activities are allowed in the playgrounds only.

We endorse smokefree parks, playgrounds, sportsgrounds and walkways.
