Whakaheke

INSPIRING OYMPIANS

Whakaheke carving at Sport Taranaki.

Artist: Patrick Keepa

Sport Taranaki buidling, New Plymouth.

This Whakaheke was created to stand at the entrance to the New Zealand Olympic Games Team Village in Sydney to bring peace from Aoteroa, inspire strength and honour endeavour.

During 2002 it embraced and supported the New Zealand team at the XVII Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England.

In 2007 the Whakaheke was gifted back to the region of its origin and today graces the entrance to the Sport Taranaki building.
