CHIEF'S FAMILY REPRESENTED IN STONE CARVINGS

These carved boulders make a dramatic contrast to the surrounding garden.

Artist: Filipe Tohi

Carrington St, New Plymouth.

Filipe Tohi is of Tongan descent and has lived in New Plymouth for many years. He has several artworks installed around the city.

At the rear entrance to our Civic Centre is this stone carving. Composed of several carved boulders, Fanau ("Family") represents the family of a chief.
