Meet Assistant Curator Eve

How long have you been a keeper?

I’ve volunteered and worked in Canada at zoos, aquariums and with wildlife rehabilitation since 2003 and have been the Assistant Curator at Brooklands Zoo since January 2008. 

Why did you become a keeper?

I am a true ‘animal geek’ and have always wanted to work with animals and conservation. 

What is the best thing about the job?

Working in a job that I’m so passionate about – I feel very lucky to work in this role.

What is the worst thing about the job?

Not being able to comfort an animal if it’s feeling unwell. (Most animals in zoos aren’t able to be handled all that closely due to their wild natures.)

What animals do you work with at the zoo?

I’m generally based in the office now as a lot of paperwork is generated with running a zoo. In the past I have worked with a wide range of exotic animals. 

What is your favourite animal at the Zoo?

I really can’t choose a favourite - each animal has their own quirky personality. 

Why is Brooklands Zoo so special?

For such a small zoo Brooklands Zoo has a lot of personality and a great team of staff.
