About Our District

Looking at Mt Taranaki and New Plymouth from out at sea.

New Plymouth District, with a population of around 70,000 people, makes up the largest district in Taranaki.

With the stunning Mt Taranaki as a backdrop and the warm iron sands along our coast, it’s no wonder New Plymouth has been judged the best place to live in New Zealand (North & South Magazine) and the best small city in the world (Liveable Communities Awards).
