Waitangi 08 Celebrations

Location: Puke Ariki
Waitangi ~ Whānau ~ Whānui
Commemorate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi with a series of free community events.

Dawn Ceremony, 6am Wednesday 6 February
This will be lead by Ngati Te Whiti kaumatua to commemorate the historical signing of the Treaty.
Location: Ngati Te Whiti waahi tapu whenua, a site which is adjacent to the heritage centre landing and next to the Wind Wand on the foreshore.
Prices: Free

Ngahau @ Puke Ariki Landing, noon-4pm Wednesday 6 February
A free, fun, family event featuring a fall stage programme, cultural displays, entertainment and food and art and craft stalls. This will be a fun and safe environment to learn more about the Treaty and its place in 2008. Treaty educators will be available on-site and you will be able to access resources within Puke Ariki’s library and museum. 
Location: Puke Ariki Landing
Prices: Free

Community Korero Workshop Series, 4-8 February 
The workshops will provide the opportunity for people to hear an expert discuss the issues and then participate in small round table group discussions. These smaller facilitated discussions are seen as an important opportunity to exchange views and achieve a deeper understanding about the many factors which positively and negatively influence race relations in our community.
Topics include:
* Is the Treaty of Waitangi important in 2008?
* Finding common ground.
* Valuing older people's perspective on the Treaty of Waitangi.
* How to apply the Treaty in your workplace. * Tino Rangatiratanga - what does it really mean? Why fly the Tino Rangatiratanga flag, what does it symbolise?
* Maori-Pakeha-Asian: Cultural Tides on the Pacific Rim.
Location: The Learning Centre, Puke Ariki
Prices: Free for Puke Ariki members. $25 for non-Puke Ariki members.
