Iwi Forum

The purpose of the forum is to present us with a collective view on how council policies, procedures and actions impact and affect iwi, hapu and whanau.

This does not take away or override the right of kaitiaki/tangata whenua within the rohe of New Plymouth District to deal directly with us.

Recommendations put forward by the Iwi Forum for action should be those issues that consensus has been agreed upon.

Aims

• To ensure the council progresses recommendations in a timely manner. 
• To allow kaitiaki/tangata whenua groups to wananga views and find consensus. 
• To further tangata whenua development within New Plymouth District.

Operation

The Iwi Forum is open to all kaitiaki groups within New Plymouth District. Recommendations from the Iwi Forum are considered by the Iwi Liaison Subcommittee and, if appropriate, referred to the relevant standing committee of the council.
