Urenui and Onaero Sewerage Project

We plan to develop reticulated sewerage in the residential areas of Onaero and Urenui. The existing reticulation in Urenui and Onaero domains will be connected to these schemes.

The design of the reticulation schemes is well under way, and will be completed in 2008.

A public meeting will be held when the design is nearing completion to inform property owners and residents about the form of the reticulation schemes, their cost and when they will be built.

In general, the new reticulation will be connected to Waitara’s sewerage system, and the sewage will travel by trunk mains to the New Plymouth Wastewater Treatment Plant. The treatment process results in cleaned water being discharged to the sea while the sludge component is thermally dried into the approved fertiliser Taranaki Bioboost.

Property owners in Urenui and Onaero will have the option of connecting to the new reticulation, instead of relying on their properties’ septic tanks.

The new reticulation schemes will also take the pressure off the existing systems in Urenui and Onaero domains, which at times become overloaded.
