Barrett Rd Reservoir

A 4.5mL reservoir on Barrett Rd is being built to ensure a higher and more consistent water pressure for homes from Barrett to Omata through to Spotswood and down to the port.

It will also provide greater water security for industry, and meet future demand in new residences in the Barrett and Cowling roads area, as identified in the council’s urban growth strategy.
 
An additional benefit of the new reservoir will be better control of water pressure throughout the city. The Barrett Rd reservoir will enable us to define dedicated supply zones and stabilise, and in many cases lower, pressures throughout the zones. In some parts of the Barrett reservoir zone, pressures will actually increase slightly, as will fire-fighting capacity.

By providing a more consistent water pressure to all homes, we'll be able to reduce water loss through leaks and excess use in areas where the pressure is currently too high. 

August 2008: Earthworks on the site began.
Completion date: Early 2009.
Contractor: Fulton Hogan Civil.

The Barrett Rd reservior will be commissioned after the trunk main connecting it to the Veale Rd reservoir is finished. This contract will go out to tender in August / September 2008.
