Child Cancer Foundation - Taranaki Branch

Aims: The Child Cancer Foundation believes that no child suffering from cancer or their family should ever feel alone. We provide ongoing practical, emotional and financial assistance to children and their families whose lives have been changed forever by this life threatening disease. We also support the health professionals that treat children with cancer and invest in research into the late effects of the disease.

Aims: Support and information for Cystic Fibrosis sufferers and their families.

 

Devon Kindergarten

Aims: Pre-school education. Children learn through play. Teachers provide stimulation, guidance, encouragement and support in an attractive environment. All teachers trained. Child age range three to five years.

 

Dynamite Bay Children's Club

Aims: To co-ordinate the network of Dynamite Bay Children's Clubs in Taranaki, providing resources, training, regional activities, holiday camps and programmes and support for club leaders. We provide services to improve physical, mental, social and spiritutal needs of primary aged children.

 

Dynamite Bay Club

Aims: To challenge primary children socially, physically and spiritually.
Two new clubs now operating under the Dynamite Bay banner:

Dynamite Bay Extreme - adventure style club for boys aged 7-12 years meeting each Tuesday 5.30pm-7.30pm. Cost $2 per person.  Contact Dennis Westbury phone 06-757 4771.

Aims: To provide dyslexia support to children and adults using the Davis Dyslexia Correction Programme.

Eltham Bird Centre

Bird barn accommodating up to 300 birds.

 

Eltham Toy Wall

This quirky attraction started in the 1970s when the late Faye Young found some toys in neighbouring Bridger Park. She left the toys on the wall between her house and the park in the hope that the toy's owners would find them. Instead, more toys appeared on the wall. Mrs Young and her family cemented the toys into the wall. There are now thousands of toys in the wall to be enjoyed by young and old.

 

Fun Ho! National Toy Museum

Toy collection of over 3000 Fun Ho! Toys (miniature vehicles, etc) 1930s - 1980s, also other New Zealand made toys. Also a toy maker.

 

Growing Through Grief New Plymouth

Aims: To provide small peer support groups for children affected by loss and grief around the death of a close family member, separation/divorce of their parents, separation from their parents by being in foster care or by a parent being in long term imprisonment.

Gumboot Gully - Horseriding

If it's an adventurous experience you are looking for, our treks are for you! We have access to many central Taranaki hill country stations. We are able to offer a variety of rides and overnight venues ranging from half day to one week treks. Treks include river crossings, old stock routes, native bush tracks, pine forests, high ridge tops with spectacular views and quiet misty gullies. Our team of horses are a combination of station and standard breeds. We ride in Australian and NZ stock saddles. All meals catered for on overnight treks. Season: November - May for overnight treks, year round for day rides.

Parents Centre, New Plymouth

Aims: New Plymouth Parents Centre is a volunteer organisation run by parents for parents since 1957.
We are part of a national organisation and are one of over 50 parent centres nationwide who offer our members childbirth education, parent support and education, playgroups and advocacy/lobbying for parenting, birthing and families.

Waiwhakaiho Te Kohanga Reo

Aims: To provide an environment of learning for all pre-school tamariki that caters for the individual and differing needs of mokopuna while being embraced with their whanau under Te Korowai. Te Whariki provides direct and indirect learning experiences using Te Reo, in a Kohanga Reo environment.
