Let's Shape Our Future

We are currently developing our Long-Term Council Community Plan for 2009-2019. The Community Plan will set out our programme of work over the next 10 years, including the services that will be provided and how much they’ll cost.

To help ensure the long-term plan delivers what the community wants, we spent a number of months finding out what our residents think are the important things and the big issues facing our district now and into the future.

We have held workshops, hui, meetings, conducted a telephone survey, ran a photovoice campaign, an online survey and went out on the road to 12 towns and shopping areas across the district to find out what you think we should be focusing our efforts on. Across all of these consultations we have spoken with more than 1500 people.
 
Status: Stage one of the Let's Shape Our Future consultation has closed.

What's next

During September and October we will analyse and digest the consultation results. This will then be presented to the council in November so they can begin to consider this information alongside the other strategic matters that help shape the Community Plan.

The draft Community Plan will be considered by the council and released for consultation in April 2009. At this time we will again ask for your views. Have we got it right? Does the draft plan deliver those things the community have told us they want, at a price the ratepayer can afford and sustain over the long term?

Your views really do count. Together we can make a difference. While the work on the draft Community Plan continues we'd still like to hear from you and find out what is important for our community now and in the future.
