Use of Excess Refuse Stickers Policy

Policy Purpose


This policy explains the management and administration of excess refuse stickers for refuse collection and disposal.

Policy Statements


The following statements apply to the management and administration of excess refuse stickers for refuse collection within New Plymouth District:

  1. Excess refuse stickers may be used to ensure excess refuse is collected by the Council.
  2. Excess refuse stickers may be used on bags on refuse collection routes and at designated collection points as approved by the Council; provided that in all cases the bags and wastes contained are compliant with Councils existing level of service.
  3. The Council or its contractor shall be under no obligation to collect bags with or without excess refuse stickers which do not meet the requirements of this policy, and in such cases the depositor of the bag shall be liable for such disposal.
  4. Excess refuse stickers shall be made available and sold to the public at the applicable retail charge as included in the Council’s current Long Term Council Community Plan or Annual Plan.
  5. The wholesale price of excess refuse stickers sold to approved retailers for on-sale to the public shall be at a discounted rate as detailed in the Schedule of Fees and Charges section included in the current Long Term Council Community Plan or Annual Plan.
  6. Excess refuse stickers from the previous financial year will continue to be accepted on refuse bags for up to six months after expiry.
