This document consolidates policies that apply to all reserves owned and/or administered by New Plymouth District Council.  It is intended to provide a common understanding between the council and the community of how the reserves in the district will be managed. It aims to help achieve consistency and accountability in decision making while taking into account the public interest.

Addition: Smokefree Parks Policy August 2007

Smokefree logo. The following policy was resolved by the council on 28 August 2007.

  1. The council notes the views of the Taranaki Smokefree/Auahi Kore Providers group and the petition presented by them;
  2. The council notes the view of Room Twelve, Central School;
  3. The council as a matter of policy endorses smokefree parks, playgrounds, sports grounds and walkways;
  4. As signs in council controlled parks, playgrounds, sports grounds and walkways are upgraded or replaced the smokefree logo where appropriate will appear on that signage;
  5. The council will undertake appropriate advertising and publicity to inform the community, including schools, of the smokefree policy within existing budgets.
