Pre-Consultation Marsland Hill Viewshaft

New Plymouth District Council is investigating a plan change to clarify the provision in the District Plan relating to Marsland Hill Viewshaft. The District Plan identifies urban viewshafts throughout the district, to protect views from public places. A rule OL71 for Marsland Hill Viewshaft already exists in the District Plan but the extent of the viewshaft is not shown on the planning maps, making the rule difficult to implement. 

The potential plan change proposes to add a diagram as an overlay to planning maps (C24b and C25b) to illustrate the extent of the Marsland Hill Viewshaft and where the rule applies. The proposed plan change will also re-order the heights of the sections of the viewshaft so that they align with the viewshaft drawing; this requires amendments to Rule OL71.

Status: Letters have been sent to all residents in the viewshaft area asking for feedback. A plan change is being drafted. A plan change will be put to the council for consideration at the end of 2007 or early 2008.
