District Plan Overview

What is a District Plan?

The council is required to prepare a District Plan under the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA). The District Plan includes objectives, policies and rules that manage the adverse effects of activities on the environment with a focus on land use and subdivision activities.

The New Plymouth District Plan became operative on 15 August 2005.

The council is required to review the plan no later than 10 years after it becomes operative. The council will undertake a programme of rolling reviews of the District Plan over the next 10 years.

Reading the District Plan

Copies of the District Plan can be read or downloaded here or purchased from the council. Each copy costs $300 plus $10 postage. An unpdating service is available. District Plan holders who wish to receive the service will be sent updated parts of the plan once an update has been finalised. The annual fee for receiving updates is $50.
