Traffic Detours Around Stormwater Project

A major stormwater project will see a suburban connector road in New Plymouth close for about 10 weeks from late August.

Work has already begun on the installation of a new stormwater main from Shaldon Crescent to Botany Place in Marfell.

The eight-month project includes the closure of the section of Belair Avenue between Shaldon Crescent and Botany Place to all traffic from 24 August to 1 November, although pedestrians will still have access.

“During that period drivers will need to use Blagdon Road and Endeavour Street or Omata Road to move between Spotswood and Marfell,” says Manager Water and Wastes Brent Manning.

“At other times there will occasionally be single traffic lanes and traffic delays, so we’re asking drivers to take care throughout this project.”

There will be a break in construction over the Christmas/New Year period.

The new pipe will improve the capacity of the stormwater network in that area which will resolve ponding problems for properties in Shaldon Crescent, with the stormwater flow directed to the Mangaotuku Stream in a reserve off Botany Place.
