Temporary Detour In Place on Te Henui Walkway

Mon 07 Jul 2008

Repairs to a section of Te Henui Walkway will see a detour put in place for four or five weeks.

Work will begin next Monday (14 July) on repairing the stream’s bank between Devon St and the bridge next to the Fitzroy Bowling Club.

“People won’t be able to use this section of the walkway during the repairs, so we have put in a clearly marked detour along Baring Tce,” says Manager Projects Team Jeff Bondy.

“The work is to repair damage caused by erosion, which has been a continual problem along this part of the stream and was made worse after a heavy downpour earlier this year.”

Meanwhile, improvements to the walkway’s surface from Northgate to Devon St are nearly completed, with the final concrete section from the bowling club bridge to the Coastal Walkway to be poured this week (weather permitting). The improvements will make it easier for people with limited mobility to use this section of Te Henui Walkway.
