CBD Road Works

The second stage of a four to five year programme to improve the road surface within the CBD will start in January.
Status: Work will start on Sunday 29 January. We will update this page as information and dates are finalised.

Len Lye Centre

The Len Lye Centre will be a dedicated space providing permanent access to Len Lye’s art and ideas while assuring the preservation of the Len Lye Collection and Archive for future generations.
Status: Construction is planned to begin in late 2012.

Let's Go

We aim to encourage people out of their cars and onto our spectacular shared pathways and streetscapes by making walking and cycling the easiest transport options.
Status: We are currently working on a number of initiatives with the community.

Land Supply Review and the Framework for Growth

We are currently undertaking work to rezone urban growth areas investigated through the Land Supply Review (LSR) and identified within the Framework for Growth (FFG). We conducted a two-year (2006 to 2008)  review on the supply of land for residential purposes throughout the district and industrial land in New Plymouth and Bell Block, that is the LSR. The outcome of the LSR was the Council adoption of the FFG in 2008. The FFG is currently being implemented through investigations to rezone the urban growth areas by way of changes to the District Plan.
Status: LSR and FFG consultation has closed and Stages 1 and 2 are complete. Stage 3, involving the implementation of the FFG (through the District Plan change process), started in April 2008.  Consultation with respect to investigations into the rezoning of the future urban growth areas identified within the FFG is being facilitated through the District Plan change process.

Logging

Logging will take place in Lake Mangamahoe Forest that will affect some walking and mountain bike trails.
Status: The summer harvest will run from 2 January until the end of March 2012.

Rural Review Project - Stage 3

Ensuring the New Plymouth District Plan (2005) is equipped to sustainably manage the rural environment. 
Status: Stage 3 is in progress.

Strategic Transport Study

Managing the district’s road developments for the next 25 years and beyond.

Vogeltown Water Main Renewal

The water mains in the lower Vogeltown area are being replaced.
