Walking Your Dog
The dog pound is a holding facility for dogs until they are collected by their owners. Animal Control Officers are professionals in dog control and make every effort to ensure dogs are safe and cared for while in the pound.
Where a current registration tag is identifiable or the dog is microchipped every attempt is made to contact the owner of an impounded dog. Any dog impounded for straying in public or private places and not claimed is required by law to be held in the dog pound for at least seven days.
The dog pound is on Rifle Range Road. It is open to the public from 4.30pm to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.
The pound has an outside holding pen for dogs delivered by the public outside of opening hours. If you deliver a dog when the pound is closed, please phone us on 06-759 6060 and leave your name, address, date and details about where the dog was found. If it is a dog for re-housing please advise whether or not it is neutered and some details about the dog, e.g. its name and breed.
If the dog has any severe injuries, you may need to take it to a veterinary clinic or the SPCA.
