Volunteering New Plymouth

Volunteering New Plymouth is a central point of contact for people wanting to volunteer, and for groups, organisations, agencies and individuals who would like to utilise the skills of volunteers. The centre also arranges activities for National Volunteers Week and the Volunteers Recognition Awards.A volunteer painting a child's face.

The centre provides:

  • Information to volunteers about volunteering and organisations looking for volunteers.
  • Information to organisations about volunteers and volunteering.
  • Training for volunteers.
  • Training for organisations on how to manage volunteers.
  • Advocacy to various levels of government on behalf of the volunteer effort of volunteers and organisations.
  • Promotion of volunteering in the community. 

Who volunteers?

Volunteers are people who perform services without charge.  Thousands of people of all ages, male and female, youth, employed, unemployed and retired are actively involved in voluntary work.

They work for a variety of organisations including sports clubs, youth groups, education agencies, health groups, welfare and support agencies, arts and cultural organisations, environmental groups and  community projects.
