What is Settlement Support?

Settlement Support New Plymouth is a one stop information centre for migrants, refugees and their families who come to live in New Zealand and make New Plymouth their home. The service provides information, support, referral and orientation to help migrants overcome some of the challenges of settling in a new country.

 

Who uses Settlement Support New Plymouth?

Who uses Settlement Support?

Migrants and refugees who are permanent residents, or who are on “work-to-residence visas", in their initial settlement phase. This period is the first two years of settlement for migrants and the first three years for refugees.

BackgroundBackground

The Department of Labour is responsible for leading the settlement strategy throughout New Zealand and establishing a national network of migrant resource services, named Settlement Support New Zealand.

Settlement Support New Plymouth was established in May 2006 under the umbrella of the Taranaki Employment Support Foundation Trust. This charitable trust was established in August 2000 with the purpose of benefiting the Taranaki community through the provision, promotion and facilitation of a range of support networks, training, education and work opportunities that will assist those without work to find employment.
