Stormwater

Stormwater is rainwater captured by gutters or that runs off from driveways and roads.

Stormwater needs to be managed in order to prevent flooding and water pollution in the district.

The type of stormwater disposal for each property depends on district zoning. If your property is commercial or industrial then a connection to the stormwater system is preferred. This can be connected to either a:

  • Stormwater manhole.
  • Sump.
  • Kerb connection.

If your property is residential or rural then stormwater should (in the first instance) go to a soak hole. If the site is unsuitable then an application for a stormwater connection can be made, provided there is a system to connect to.

To find out if your property is within a stormwater system area, contact us on 06-759 6060 or by using the online Contact Us form.

If you are seeking stormwater information in relation to a building consent application, the relevant details – including the location of stormwater services – is provided on your project information memorandum (PIM).
