To make our website as accessible as possible we have activated it for BrowseAloud software users. You can download BrowseAloud for free, which reads the text out as you move your cursor over the text.

W3C web standards

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) develops protocols, guidelines and standards that ensure long-term growth and access to the web for all members of society. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) ensure web content is accessible to people with disabilities. Websites are tested against criteria set at three levels - A, AA, and AAA.

In 2007 newplymouthnz.com was assessed by the Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind and met the level A requirements. In 2009, the website was again assessed and met the AA requirements.

Navigate without a mouse

You can navigate around this site without using a mouse. Following is a list of shortcut keys which will take you to commonly used pages.

For PC Users Using Internet Explorer:

Press the ALT key and the access key at the same time, release both keys, and press Enter. For example, pressing ALT + 2, releasing, then pressing Enter will take you to the site map.

For PC Users Using Firefox:

Press the ALT key, the Shift key and the access key at the same time. For example, pressing ALT + Shift + 2 will take you to the site map.

For Mac Users Using Internet Explorer:

Press the Control key and the access key at the same time, release both keys, and press Enter. For example, pressing CTRL + 2, releasing, then pressing Enter will take you to the site map.
